TILE INFO

TYPES OF TILE AVAILABLE AT GAMBLE'S FLOORING

Many people are familiar with the most common textured tile known as slate. The tile has a textured finish that naturally occurs when split. Marble, with its highly glossy polished look, is another common flooring finish. Marble and granite are sometimes finished to provide a leather effect. That finish is less glossy in appearance than most marble or granite tile. New flamed and brushed options are quite interesting.

For a flamed finish, the stone is fired with an intense flame that causes a burst in the stone. The stone bursts and exterior become rough as a result of the process. Areas that need to be slip resistant are excellent locations for this kind of tile. The treatment cannot be used on all stone. The process is used on strong materials like limestone and granite.

Metal brushes are used to create a brushed tile. A blowpipe sends a flame over the surface of the tile. Crystals in the stone are blown out. A faded, colored rough surface is the result. Oxidation causes yellow materials to be transformed into pretty reds and oranges.

The shape of tile is no longer limited to the square. Many styles and textures are available. Rectangular tile is an exceptional choice for the bathroom; rectangular tile does wonders for transforming humdrum bathrooms into luxury spas. Using rectangular tiles makes a long, narrow bathroom look wider.
You don't have to choose only one type of tile. An array of shapes and materials can be mixed and matched to create a truly unique look. A light and dark mix is perfect for a powder room. Bathrooms and powder rooms are the smallest rooms but often require the most intricate and involved elements. Travertine tile provides a unique look in these rooms. It does require having a sealant applied. There are no discoloration worries when travertine is sealed.

Dealers like Gamble's Flooring find flamed and brushed tile to be an exciting tile product to offer customers from Moraga, Orinda, Lafayette, Concord, Walnut Creek, and Pleasant Hill. Gamble's Flooring will be happy to assist with any style or shape tile you choose.
